The Anesthetist (often a Nurse Anesthetist or Anesthesia Technologist in the Ethiopian context) will provide anesthesia care under the supervision of an Anesthesiologist or Medical Director. This role involves assisting with anesthesia administration, monitoring patients during procedures, and supporting post-anesthetic recovery, ensuring patient safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clinical Duties:
- Prepare anesthesia equipment, medications, and supplies for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
- Assist the Anesthesiologist with induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia.
- Monitor patient vital signs (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, ECG) continuously during procedures.
- Adjust anesthesia delivery under supervision as required.
- Recognize and report any changes in patient condition to the Anesthesiologist promptly.
- Assist with patient positioning and airway management.
- Provide post-anesthetic care in the recovery room, ensuring stable patient parameters.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and complete anesthesia records.
- Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
- Manage anesthesia supplies inventory.
- Adhere to hospital policies and anesthesia safety guidelines.
- Educational Duties:
- Educate patients on the anesthesia process and what to expect during and after the procedure.
- Stay updated with advancements in anesthesia techniques and equipment.
