Job Summary
The Data Manager supports the Alliance Senior Director (ASD) in ensuring high-quality data management for research, consultancy, and program implementation activities at ABH Partners. Working closely with project teams, researchers, consultants, and the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team, the Data Manager is responsible for the design and management of electronic data collection systems, database development, data quality assurance, statistical analysis, and reporting. The position also provides technical support and capacity building to project staff on data management and analysis to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable data for evidence-based decision-making.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of ABH Management, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Alliance Senior Director (ASD), and in collaboration with project teams and other business divisions, the Data Manager will perform the following duties:
- Data Management
The Data Manager will:
- Develop and implement data management plans for research, consultancy, and program implementation projects.
- Design, maintain, and manage project databases and data management systems.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data management and quality assurance.
- Ensure data quality through routine verification, validation, cleaning, coding, and consistency checks.
- Ensure the confidentiality, security, storage, backup, and proper documentation of project data.
- Maintain organized databases and data archives in accordance with organizational and donor requirements.
- Support compliance with institutional, ethical, and donor data management standards.
- Support the accuracy of plans and indicators in the ERP
- Electronic Data Collection Systems
The Data Manager will:
- Design, program, test, and manage electronic data collection tools using Open Data Kit (ODK), KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, and other digital platforms as required.
- Develop electronic questionnaires with built-in validation and skip patterns to improve data quality.
- Test and pilot electronic data collection tools before field deployment.
- Monitor data synchronization and troubleshoot technical issues during field implementation.
- Provide technical support to field teams throughout data collection.
- Data Analysis and Reporting
The Data Manager will:
- Manage and analyze datasets from research studies, surveys, routine health information systems, and program monitoring activities.
- Support the analysis of large datasets, including Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), DHIS2, Health Management Information Systems (HMIS), and multicountry datasets.
- Conduct statistical analyses using STATA, SPSS, and R.
- Prepare datasets, statistical tables, graphs, charts, and analytical summaries for technical reports, presentations, manuscripts, and donor reports.
- Support researchers and consultants in data interpretation and report writing.
- Maintain well-documented datasets and analysis files for future reference and reproducibility.
- Data Quality Assurance
The Data Manager will:
- Develop and implement data quality assurance procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct routine data quality assessments and data verification exercises.
- Monitor data completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues in collaboration with project teams and field staff.
- Provide routine feedback to field teams to improve data quality and performance.
- Capacity Building
The Data Manager will:
- Train and mentor data collectors, supervisors, project staff, and consultants on data management procedures and best practices.
- Plan and facilitate training on Open Data Kit (ODK), KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, REDCap, DHIS2, and other electronic data collection platforms.
- Develop training manuals, user guides, and standard operating procedures for electronic data collection and database management.
- Provide ongoing technical support and coaching to field teams during data collection and data management activities.
- Promote good data management practices and continuous learning across the organization.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
The Data Manager will:
- Support project teams in developing data collection tools, reporting templates, and indicator tracking systems.
- Collaborate with MEL staff to ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting of project indicators.
- Support routine data verification, validation, and reporting activities.
- Contribute analytical summaries and datasets for project reviews, donor reporting, and organizational learning.
- Other Responsibilities
The Data Manager will
- Work closely with government and non-state stakeholders to strengthen data management, facilitate data sharing, and support the dissemination of information.
- Stay informed of emerging data management technologies, statistical software, and best practices.
- Represent ABH Partners in technical meetings and workshops related to data management, as delegated.
- Undertake any other duties assigned by the Alliance Senior Director or ABH Partners Management.
